Cast Net 10′ Radius and 3/8″ square mesh clear monofilament
Cast nets have been used, with various modifications, for thousands of years. A circular net with small weights distributed around its edge. Catching small forage fish to use for bait is particularly effective with this simple device.
The fishing net is thrown by hand in such a manner that it spreads out while it’s in the air before it sinks into the water. Attached to the fishing net is a handline, which is held in the hand as the net is thrown. When the net is full, a retrieval clamp, which works like a wringer on a mop, closes the net around the fish. Pull the handline to retrieve the net.
Cast nets work best in water that is no deeper than their radius. Waters free of obstructions will produce the best results when casting. Reeds can cause tangles and branches can rip nets. When throwing the net out into the water, use both hands, in a circular motion. The net can be cast from a boat, from the shore, or by wading. Our nets will lie flat when thrown.
